PM Justin Trudeau welcomes ethics probe into SNC-Lavalin case
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday he welcomed an investigation by Canada’s ethics commissioner into allegations officials in his office had tried to pressure then-attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould last year to get public prosecutors to cut a deal with SNC-Lavalin to avoid a criminal trial.

The company faces corruption and fraud charges stemming from business activities.

Trudeau has repeatedly denied the allegations, but Wilson-Raybould has been unable to confirm or deny them due to what she says is solicitor-client privilege. The current justice minister and attorney general David Lametti has been asked by Trudeau for recommendations on whether to waive said privileges, which would allow Wilson-Raybould to speak about the allegations.
